RLI Yoda: How should I time taking the RLI Courses?

Ummmm. The Rotary force is
strong in this one...
Q. I'm interested in attending these RLI courses. Can you give me an idea of how long the coarse is on a given day? Should one try to cram in all three courses in a few months or should one spread it out over a year or two? I'm assuming you only do 1 part for any given day is that correct? I await your reply. Rtn. Rudy in Roxbury

A. Dear Rtn. Rudy. Our courses start at 830am with registration, coffee and refreshments and ends at 4:00-4:15pm. How close together you take the courses is personal preference. In my opinion, it is good to take them closer together, so that you have retained more, and can build from the prior class and connections. You are welcome, of course, to take them as they fit into your schedule. I would also recommend taking some courses outside of your district, so that you can be exposed to a new group of Rotarians and differing Rotary ideas! And yes, you can only take one course per day (I, II, or III). RLI Yoda.

Emphasize Combined Wisdom

As a way to emphasize the skills, knowledge, and experiences of your participants, consider doing this “combined wisdom” icebreaker from trainerbubble.com:

On a flip chart at the front of the room, list each participant’s years of experience, and add up the numbers. Then, when talking about the key challenges facing the group in regard to the training or the topic to be discussed refer to the group’s combined years of experience and shared wisdom. Begin to test their ability to respond to the challenges. Refer to this number throughout the session as you develop action suggestions for participants to take away. From Rotary Training Talk.

FAQ: What is the International RLI?

The International RLI is the umbrella organization that coordinates the activities of RLI worldwide. It is NOT a division, but provides resources and support to all divisions. All divisions are created by agreement with International RLI and the divisions are subject to the general policies of International RLI. Until about 2001, both the Home Division activities (now the Northeast America Division) and national and international matters were handled by the Home Division, but at that time the functions were divided and the International RLI was created as a separate entity. The International RLI develops recommended New Division Training and a Recommended Curriculum. Excerpts from The RLI E-Bulletin February 2012.
