Rotarians Excel at Fredericksburg VA RLI

District 7610 (Northeast Virginia) hosted a Rotary Leadership Institute training event on Nov 16th, 2013 in Fredericksburg to wrap-up their Fall 2013 RLI event schedule. Nineteen of the district’s clubs sent 43 participants and 9 facilitators/staff to the event which was also attended by 9 Rotarians from Districts 7570, 7600, and 7620. A very big thanks to Ken Tillman and his Rappahannock-Fredericksburg club support for setting up the venue, catering, and handling the registration table!

Eleven District 7610 Rotarians from eight clubs graduated from the series of three one-day “parts” by completing the Part III course this fall: Crystal City-Pentagon: Eric Barr, Andrew Provo, Renee Wolforth; Fairfax: Paula Kelley (Completed at the Richmond Event Nov 2nd); Falls Church: Erica Brouilettte; McLean: Robert Hahne, Paul Sawtell; Rappahannock-Fredericksburg: C. Lewis Taylor; · Rosslyn-Ft Myer: Fayez Saleeb; Springfield: Pat Locke; West Springfield: Steve Cook (who especially enjoyed the course as a participant after having facilitated so many sessions!).

Three other Rotarians from Districts 7570, 7600, and 7620 also graduated from the course on November 16th: Club President Debra Morfit, Front Royal Club, District 7570; Rudy Garcia, Fluvanna Rotary Club, District 7600; Mike Smith, Clarksville Rotary Club, District 7620.

The District 7610 RLI staff was very excited to have the first ever participant from the Gloucester Club when Steve Wood attended Part I at Fredericksburg. Four other clubs that do not have any graduates sent participants this fall: Albemarle, Blue Ridge Mountains, King George-Dahlgren, and Manassas. We hope these clubs will have their first RLI graduates soon! Two clubs from Arlington County participated in all three parts this fall: Crystal City-Pentagon and Rosslyn-Ft Myer! During the past two months, eleven District 7610 Rotarians also attended RLI events in Beltsville and Wye Mills, Maryland as well as Richmond and Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Overall, 24 clubs participated in RLI activities this fall: Albemarle – Parts I and II Participation; Bailey’s Crossroads – Part II participation; Blue Ridge Mountains – Part II participation; Bull Run – Part II participation.

Average Attendance at RLIs Up 48 Percent

A point of emphasis and measurement this year is event average attendance. After highlighting this as a measuring tool during the Summer Meeting in August 2013, RLI Events Coordinator Bob Stinson reports that we have seen improvement. Congratulations RLI Staff and District leaders! Here are the numbers.
  • 2012/13 Average Event Attendance – 26
  • 2012/13 Fall Average Event Attendance- 21
  • 2013/14 Fall Average Attendance – 31 ( 48% Increase from the Fall of last year)

Pinehurst NC RLI Part of a Three Event Approach in District 7690

Pinehurst RLI Participants Engage in Rotary!
November 22, 2013 marked the first of three District 7690 RLI sessions scheduled for the 2013-14 Rotary year. Hosted by the Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst NC, this session was the first in efforts to move the RLI sessions around the district geographically, in order to bring them closer to home for Rotarians throughout the district, and to closer to our neighboring districts as well.

Attendance was relatively light. Nine Rotarians participated in Part I and four others completed Part III and are now graduates. Two others in Part II rounded out the participant group. Many thanks to Rotarians Milt Iossi, Randy Hollister, Ed Shearin, Jim Harrington, Van Sherrill, Sherry Harris and Bob Stinson who served as faculty, and to Western Carolinas' Regional Coordinator Bill Parker. Speaking of faculty, RLI Executive Director Bevin and RLI Faculty Trainer Pam Wall were also present and conducted faculty training for four new faculty. The next District 7690 RLI will be in Thomasville, NC in February. Submitted by District 7690 RLI Chair Bob Newton.
